California Halibut Derby, Humboldt Bay | Saturday, July 25

Price range: $40.00 through $1,000.00

What: Slot Size Derby (slot size will be drawn at 6am and posted to our socials)
When: Saturday, July 25, 2026
Where: All waters within Humboldt Bay
Registration: Must be signed up with completed payment for the Derby by Friday, July 24 at midnight. Derby fees will include a yearly NCGASA.org membership (Adult $30, Youth $10)
Boat Launches: You can launch anywhere in Humboldt Bay
Anglers: Can fish from the shore, beaches, piers, kayaks, boats in Humboldt Bay
Fishing Times: You can start fishing at 5:30am to 2:30pm on Saturday, July 25.
Check-ins start at 2:30pm: Derby participants need to check in at Woodley Island, 601 Startare Drive, Eureka, CA 95501 at the East-I Lot Grass Area first before getting your California Halibut entry measured. There you will receive your raffle tickets to be eligible to WIN a PRIZE from our sponsors. Weigh-ins will be at same location.
Fish Weigh-ins times: from 2:30 – 3:30pm. Must be in line with your fish by 3:30pm in order to qualify.
Event ends: 5:30pm
Donations: You can become a sponsor of this event by selecting any amount provided or by contacting us directly. We will use your donation to provide the youth anglers with prizes.

Sponsor this fun, family-friendly event and get your logo on our poster and on all our marketing collateral. 

Adult Payouts

$500 – 1st Place
$300 – 2nd Place
$150 – 3rd Place
* based on number of participants

Youth Payouts

$100 – 1st Place
$75 – 2nd Place
$50 – 3rd Place
All youth participants will receive a rod and reel combo!

Additional Payout

Big Fish Prize: Entries will be California Halibut 30” and above. ONLY ONE Big Fish can be entered per entrant. In case of a tie, winner will be determined by weight. For the big fish, adult and youth divisions will be combined
Winner to be announced at event

Raffle Tickets

Win all kinds of extra prizes at the event. You can purchase additional raffle tickets at the check in station during the event. $20 = 5 raffle tickets. Fill out your full name on the back of the tickets and insert into receptacle provided. Winning tickets will be drawn after all the fish are measured and before 5:30pm.

*Current 2026 NCGASA members who sign up for the Cali Derby will receive an extra $20 in raffle tickets at event check-in. Contact Nor-Cal Guides Board Treasurer Aimee Ferguson at aferguson@ncgasa.org to confirm your membership or for questions. Example: If you fished in our Striped Bass Derby in April, you are a 2026 current member. Nor-Cal Guides Derbies are for members only.
