Salmon Festival at Coleman National Fish Hatchery

NCGASA continues to support fish hatcheries such as the Coleman National Fish Hatchery and their efforts in growing and preserving salmon during  their Annual Salmon Festival held on October 15, 2022 in Anderson.

This one day FREE event showcases the work of the Coleman National Fish Hatchery during the return of the fall Chinook salmon.  This family friendly event had informational booths from nonprofit organizations like NCGASA.org, and children’s activities.  Visitors will see spawning activities, view adult salmon in Battle Creek, and learn more about the life cycle of salmon.

NCGASA began engaging with Coleman National Fish Hatchery after hearing about an excess of adult steelhead filling the raceways at the facility.  These fish arrived at the hatchery as a result of a rain filled winter in 2017 and positive hatchery results. NCGASA has worked with the hatchery and government officials to make sure sportsmen and women, guides, and the fly fishing community have an ample opportunity to catch, harvest and release these fish for future generations.
